About
I am an academic librarian interested in the evolution of reference, cataloguing, and instructional services. As the bibliographer and liaison for history (world and USA), theology and religious studies, Spanish (Iberia and Latin America), Asian languages, classics, ethnic studies, medieval and renaissance studies, ministry, and the TransBorder Institute I also manage these areas' collection development.
Research Interests: Besides seriously enjoying library and information science research along with library day to day work including cataloguing. One of my interests is in how reference services are expanding in the real world as well as in multi user virtual environments such as SecondLife and other platforms. Cataloguing's importance has only grown with the expansion of online resources (ebooks, online databases, etc), so I strive to keep up with the changes. I have followed the RDA/FRBR conception and development since my library school days. It is very gratifying to finally see it come to fruition and implementation this summer 2010! My interest in cataloguing comes from trying to make it easier for users to find the information they need regardless of format.
For fun I delve into the philology of Romance languages. To date I have studied Latin, where it all started, and in order of study the following -- French, Spanish, Portuguese, Catalan, Romanian, and Italian.
In my free time, I have studied German and will start officially studying Mandarin Chinese this fall semester 2010.
